Monica Brown experience at Borley

Even though its not specifically haunt related, I thought some of you might enjoy hearing about the trip I took a few years back while in England.

As I am sure most of you know, England is a veritable hot bed of ghosts and eerie happenings, and while I was there I spent a lot of time looking up places that might be haunted and trying to get myself there.

On Halloween night 1990, I took a bus trip with a few friends. It was hosted by a member of the Society for Psychical Research who was VERY knowledgeable about the area. The main reason I took it was because it took us to Borley.

On Halloween night (for obvious reasons) the police close both roads into Borley village and only people who permanently reside there are allowed in or out. I guess they have alot of problems with vandals and visitors for obvious reasons. We were the only group allowed into the village that night and we were lucky enough to be allowed to tour the church.

The only stipulation was that we were not allowed to discuss the haunting at the Rectory while we were inside the church.

I have seen many pictures of the Rectory and the church and have read several articles, but the main one that sticks out in my mind was (and of course I can't find the durned book right now) one where some modern day scientists (I believe circa late 1970s early 80s) went to Borley to see if there were any signs of further hauntings. They staked out the church with recorders and sound equipment (mostly place on the altar and in that area) and were shocked to wind up with quite a bit on those tapes. If I remember right there were doors slamming and even growls heard on the tapes.

At any rate, I was REALLY excited to be going there. When we stepped inside the church, there was a lady there to make sure we behaved and the leader of the tour had us sit in the pews while he told us about the history of the church.

I don't know if any of you has been to England in the fall, but it can get pretty cold. This night was no exception, but it wasn't THAT cold. All of the sudden, after I had sat there for a few minutes, I noticed that everyone (myself included) was absolutely SHAKING with cold. I mean, teeth chattering the whole bit. I started looking around a bit and trying to get a feeling for why I was suddenly freezing my a** off and noticed that the cold radiated from the altar. It was absolutely rolling back at us in waves right from that area. When the history lesson was done, we were allowed to walk around the area and so of course I made a beeline for the altar and stood there for a bit. I have never been so cold in my LIFE. And the strange thing is, as we stepped outside, the lady watching the place had this HUGE grin on her face and these incredibly long feet. I remember everyone looking at her and sort of looking down and seeing her feet and then kinda making a polite but quick getaway.

I have often wondered if maybe they had an airconditioner up there behind the altar, but there was no sound. It was as quiet in the place (sorry for the pun) as a tomb. And it was OLD.

There were really only two places that night that really bothered me psychically, and Borley was one of them. I wonder if my fascination with haunting and Halloween has gotten more extreme since then.

At any rate, if you need more info on Borley definitely go to http://www.borleyrectory.com

HAPPY HAUNTINGS!!!
