BORLEY GHOST SOCIETY

Associate Leonie Gregson

I was born in Hobart, Tasmania in 1969 - my father having emigrated to Australia in the late 40s, where he married my mother, Lorraine (nee Whitton) in April 1949 (Mum and dad recently celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary!). I have a sister, Stephanie, and brother, Andrew, who were both born in the 50s - so they're quite a bit older than I am.

My family connection to Borley: my grandfather, Captain William Hart Gregson, bought the Rectory in 1938. My father, Alan, and his brother, Anthony, were in their late teens at the time. I have often asked my Dad about his experiences at Borley, because it always fascinated me, and he is full of interesting stories. He will tell you about all kinds of strange happenings, then maintain - with a twinkle in his eye - that he 'doesn't believe in ghosts'! But he says he certainly can't explain any of the weird things that happened to him and his relatives while living at Borley.

My father is a very practical man - a skeptic, who has nonetheless been forced to witness extraordinary, supernatural things and can describe them in detail. Knowing him as well as I do, and knowing how modestly down-to-earth he is (a quietly-spoken, gentlemanly, kind and unassuming soul: not at all a man to make up stories, and absolutely not a man who has ever looked for any kind of reknown - quite the contrary, in fact), I must admit that his stories of Borley have turned me into a grudging believer in the paranormal, even while he still chooses to remain a skeptic.

I live in a village called Burley-in-Wharfedale, near Ilkley. My new job is as a technical editor with the National Health Service. I moved to England from Australia in 1999.

My ambition is to be a published author (can never get around to finishing enough work to send out) and probably a web editor (a bit of training to do there, then!). I intend returning to Australia eventually, or maybe going to New Zealand.
