BORLEY GHOST SOCIETY

Associate Simon Osborne

I was born in Rushden, Northamptonshire (UK) in 1967. My grandparents brought me up until I was about 7 and then I went to live with an Aunt in Raunds. My grandmother was an avid spiritualist and I was taken to meetings, so it was inevitable I would grow up with some interest in ghosts.

When I was a child I may have been susceptible to 'seeing' ghosts as I remember many odd incidents. One of which was with a friend, and he saw the same apparition. This incident fuelled my interest and I read as many books about the phenomena as possible. I also wrote to many ghosthunters, including Peter Underwood, and the Society for Physical Research. The SPR sent me a copy of 'The Haunting of Borley Rectory' by Dingwell, Goldney & Hall. I then read the Harry Price books and I have been 'hooked' on Borley ever since! The last book I read about Borley was 'The Enigma of Borley Rectory' by Ivan Banks, which I highly recomend.

For some years now I have worked with the elderly and am currently secretary to Wicksteed Memorial House Trust, a charitable trust providing residential care to the elderly. I am very busy in my work, but the freetime I do have for my self is mainly devoted to the study of ghosts.

Of all the cases of hauntings I have read about, none of them are more intriguing than Borley Rectory. Some years ago I had a chance to go to Borley. I walked through the village and noticed that new bungalows were built on the rectory site. I went into Borley Church and looked at the Waldegrave Tomb. Whilst at Borley I couldn't help feeling an unsual 'stillness' to the place.
